Merete Nordentoft & Preben Bo Mortensen
Prize recipients found novel ways to improve treatment and prevent suicide among people with mental disorders
Professors Merete Nordentoft and Preben Bo Mortensen are receiving the 2020 Novo Nordisk Prize for their pioneering clinical and epidemiological research contributions to Danish medical science. The Novo Nordisk Foundation awards the Prize, which is accompanied by DKK 3 million.

- MD degree in 1984, trained as a specialist in psychiatry, PhD degree in 1994 and DMSc degree in 2007
- Driving force behind establishing the OPUS clinical research project, co-authored Denmark’s action plan for preventing suicide in 1997–1998 and was involved in opening the Centre for Suicide Prevention
- 2016 Richard J. Wyatt Award
- 2017 Marie and August Krogh Prize
- 2018 Danish Medical Association, honorific award
