EASD-Novo Nordisk Foundation Diabetes Prize for Excellence
The EASD–Novo Nordisk Foundation Diabetes Prize for Excellence recognises outstanding contributions to the understanding of diabetes, its disease mechanisms, or its complications.

New knowledge about diabetes
The EASD–Novo Nordisk Foundation Diabetes Prize for Excellence is awarded annually by the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) and the Novo Nordisk Foundation.
It is awarded to an internationally recognised researcher who has contributed significantly to diabetes research. The recipient’s research may focus on prevention, treatment, and/or basic research in physiological biochemistry. The research may also be clinically oriented.
The Prize is accompanied by DKK 6 million, of which DKK 5 million is a research grant and the rest a personal award. It is conferred at the annual meeting of the EASD.
The recipient is selected by an award committee appointed by the EASD and the Prize is funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation. Recipients must be an employee of a university, hospital or other non-profit institution.
Scientific excellence
Globally, more than 370 million people have diabetes, a number expected to increase to 550 million by 2030. This makes the disease one of the most pressing global health problems.
The Prize is intended to reward and encourage individual scientific excellence in order to promote innovative research that can lead to new knowledge about diabetes for the benefit of people with diabetes and to stimulate interest in science and technology in society as a whole.
