For the benefit of people with obesity

The EASO-Novo Nordisk Foundation Obesity Prize for Excellence is awarded by the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO) and the Novo Nordisk Foundation.

The Prize is awarded annually to an internationally recognised researcher for their contributions to obesity research.

The Prize is accompanied by DKK 2 million, of which DKK 1.7 million is a research grant and the rest a personal award. It is conferred at the annual European Congress on Obesity.

The two organisations also jointly award four New Investigator Awards each year to recognise promising research in the field of obesity. The categories are Basic Science, Clinical Research, Public Health, and Childhood Obesity. Each Award is accompanied by DKK 300,000 for research purposes.

The awardees are chosen for their scientific excellence and clear commitment to their chosen area of obesity research. They must have completed a PhD within the past five years or an MD within the last eight years.

An independent assessment committee appointed by EASO selects the recipients of the Prize and Awards, which are funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation.

The recipients must be employed by a university, hospital or other non-profit institution.

Scientific excellence

Globally, more than one billion people live with obesity, a number expected to rise to two billion by 2035.

The EASO-Novo Nordisk Foundation Obesity Prize for Excellence is intended to reward and encourage individual scientific excellence in order to promote innovative research that can lead to new knowledge about obesity for the benefit of people who live with obesity and to stimulate interest in science and technology in society as a whole.
